What to do in Madrid in summer?

Summer isn’t just about beaches and sun. You can also enjoy a few days’ holiday in the inland areas of Spain, like Madrid. The country’s capital has a complete range of leisure activities, which will surprise you with their endless possibilities.

Get to know the city centre

Don’t let the heat put you off; explore the historic city centre on foot. The terraces you’ll find along the way will help you to rest and recuperate while you get to know areas as striking as Madrid de los Austrias, Malasaña and the La Latina neighbourhood first-hand.

To the pool!

What better way to deal with the high temperatures than going to the swimming pool? Leave your belongings in our lockers in Madrid and choose one of the many facilities in and around the city. Among them, it’s a great idea to dive into the pools at the Club de Tiro el Pardo or the Centro Deportivo Municipal Casa de Campo.

Madrid from above

Many of the most popular buildings in the city centre have spectacular rooftop terraces where you can have a drink and, above all, look out over Madrid at night.

And don’t forget to visit some of the best viewpoints in the capital. You’ll have the chance to see the city’s skyline, its most special landscapes and, of course, take spectacular panoramic photos from them. If you’re up for it, after storing your luggage in Madrid, head for the most beautiful spots like the Palacio de Cibeles or the Moncloa Lighthouse.

A film session

Is there a better way to enjoy a summer evening than by going to a drive-in cinema in Madrid? Take advantage of our locker service in Madrid to store your luggage and then head to the end of the Paseo de la Castellana. Here there’s a large drive-in cinema, which even has hammocks and an area dedicated to gastronomy.

If you like films, you should also take advantage of the programme of the summer cinemas in the capital.

The Zarzuela Hippodrome

Horses, betting, a pleasant dinner in the garden, a street market… the Zarzuela Hippodrome is one of the great attractions for anyone spending the summer in Spain’s capital. Also, throughout all this time, you can enjoy evening races on Thursday and Saturday nights. Definitely a safe bet if you’re looking to beat the heat.

Cool yourself off in Madrid

Start by leaving your suitcases in Madrid and find yourself a relaxing spot in the city to cool down. One of the most popular is the Casa de Campo lake. The vegetation and the water will help you beat the heat.

Another great place to chill out is the Madrid Río beach. Right near the centre of the city you’ll find grassy areas and refreshing water jets for visitors to enjoy. It’s an attraction which is suitable for the whole family, without being considered a swimming pool.

The water parks

In Madrid and the surrounding area there are several water parks, which combine fun and water to make a special day out for all visitors.

The Warner Beach Park offers a unique experience, including plenty of outdoor activities, as well as Looney Tunes shops and a variety of lounge areas for visitors.

Aquopolis, for its part, is the perfect place for bathing and having fun on various attractions, all based around water. Don’t miss the chance to slide down its slides or take a dip in its pools and ponds.

Going to museums

Art and culture are two of the great attractions of this city. It’s well worth taking a few days out of your stay to visit its most important museums. Your route should definitely include the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum and the Prado, where you’ll find works by some of the most important artists of all time, including Bosch, Velázquez and Renoir. Also of interest are the Reina Sofía Art Centre and the Museum of Romanticism.

Now you know about everything you can do in Madrid, are you interested in spending a few days’ holiday in the capital this summer? If so, then don’t forget to leave your luggage in the LOCK & enjoy! lockers. You’ll be able to go sightseeing stress-free and conveniently!
