Program of activities

This year the Malaga Fair begins on Saturday August 17 and ends on Sunday August 24; a week full of activities for all kinds of audiences and tastes.

Fireworks

The fireworks show is the symbol of the beginning of the festival. It is one of the most important and awaited events, since 600 kilos of gunpowder are launched, resulting in flashes of colors, glitter and a lot of noise. There are 2 fireworks events, one in the center of Malaga and another in the Real Cortijo de Torres.

Now, where to go to see this spectacle? There are many places like, for example, the Malagueta beachthe viewpoint of Gibralfaro or in any of the terraces on the rooftops of the capital.

At LOCK & enjoy! we advise you to arrive in good time (start time is at 00:00 hours), since many people tend to concentrate in the same places.

Pilgrimage to the Santuario de la Victoria

It is the religious and cultural event that also marks the beginning of this Malaga festival and pays tribute to the patron saint of Malaga: the Virgen de la Victoria. It is celebrated on Saturday 17 at 10:00 am.

The starting point is at the Church of San Lázarofrom where the procession departs through the streets of the center. It is a real spectacle in which music, songs and dances are mixed. The people who decide to participate have a goal which is to bring flowers and small offerings to the patron saint.

On the other hand, we would like to point out that it is an authentic demonstration of Andalusian culture, since people are dressed in traditional costumes and, in addition, there are decorated carts and riders on horseback.

The pilgrimage ends at the Sanctuary of La Victoria with a solemn mass, where the image of the Virgin is located.

Proclamation and lighting

The same day of the pilgrimage, Saturday 17, the proclamation is officiated. Although the official program has not yet been published, the location of the place where this event takes place has been held for years at the fairgrounds.

The malagueño chosen this year for his renowned musical career is El Kanka. He will be in charge of sending a warm and emotional message to the people of Malaga and visitors who have decided to visit one of the most important festivals in Spain.

Once the proclamation is over, the lighting of the lights in the Real de la Feria de Málaga is carried out, very similar to that of the Seville Fair. This act is another of the emotional moments, since thousands of lights are turned on at the same time and, therefore, a magical and festive atmosphere is created.

Malaga Fair by day

For us, the best thing about the fair is its street and daytime atmosphere, that is to say, to let yourself be enveloped by the joy and magic in the streets of the center, more specifically in Larios street.

Have a beer on a terrace or take a stroll to see the decoration of the streets, as well as the flamenco dresses worn by the Malagueñas. Polka dots and hats are present in every corner as a special symbol of Andalusian culture.

You will surely meet the “pandas de verdiales“. These are performances of folk groups very typical of the province of Malaga, where music, singing and dancing are mixed with bright and colorful costumes. They are a very important part of the fair, as they are dedicated to liven up the atmosphere.

Let yourself be carried through the streets and enjoy the fair atmosphere!

Concerts

Most of the artists are already confirmed. A total of 200 musical and artistic shows will take place in different parts of the city. Let’s take a look at the most famous ones:

  • Municipal Auditorium. The singer chosen for Saturday August 17 is Carlos Baute. On the other hand, on Tuesday 20 will take place Malaguita Fest with Tabletom, Los Caracoles and Efecto Mariposa. The singer José Mercé will appear on the 21st and María del Monte on the 23rd.
  • Caseta Municipal del Flamenco y la Copla. Throughout the day there are daily flamenco and copla shows, such as Pedro Carmona or Celia López.
  • Peña Juan Breva. There are also flamenco performances every day with Chelo Soto or Pepe de Campillos.

Tickets are free of charge except for the concert by María Peláe and Marta Santos.

Fairgrounds

The fairground is the epicenter of the party, especially in the afternoon and evening. It is one of the liveliest places throughout the week, since the atmosphere is dancing and singing in each of the booths that are decorated.

We recommend that you make a visit with time to the enclosure and choose a booth to check the atmosphere inside, although each one has its own style in terms of music and dance.

Attractions

At the fairs you can never miss the popular attractions such as the Grasshopper, the Viking Boat or the Bumper Cars. In addition, there are rides for both adults and children.

The attractions are located in Cortijo de Torres.

For any of the activities we advise you to use public transportation, since parking will be very difficult. In addition, on those dates there is usually a free bus shuttle.
