The best activities during the Fallas of Valencia to enjoy to the fullest

We have prepared a small selection of the best activities during the Fallas of Valencia. For this, we have based ourselves on the popularity of the activities and also on their originality, as there are some events that are not so well known by tourists but are worth it.

Watching a Plantà

The plantà is one of the most exciting moments in the Fallas of Valencia. Takes place on the night of March 15th, where Fallas artists and commissions meet to finish setting up the Fallas on their respective streets. Although the majority are placed days before, on this night they must be completely ready.

You approach any neighborhood, you can witness live how the huge figures made of cardboard and wood are assembled, as well as the touch-up of the impressive artistic details.

It is a very important event because after the plantà, the jury will select the prizes for each falla.

Mascletàs

The mascletàs are one of the most vibrant and important spectacles during the Fallas of Valencia and are also a tourist symbol. They are held from March 1st to 19th (inclusive) at 2:00 PM in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Furthermore, they last between 5 and 10 minutes.

Noise is the main protagonist, as only the white smoke released by the firecrackers and rockets when they explode is visible; it is very impressive, especially if it is your first time seeing a pyrotechnic display of this caliber. However, the magic lies precisely in that detail because the louder the noise, the more festive the atmosphere among the attendees, and therefore, the more applause the pyrotechnician will receive.

We recommend that you do not go with animals and that you stay away from the front rows if you go with children, as it can be very bothersome for them. Also, arrive well in advance, as the main streets and surroundings quickly fill up with people.

Also, it is the perfect time to leave your belongings in our luggage lockers at the Town Hall of Valencia. You can book for a whole day or by the hour. We recommend that you make your reservation as soon as possible because in 2024, over a million tourists visited the city during this festival.

Winning Fallas

By March 16th, the winning Fallas will already be known, so you can make a list of which ones have received the most awards to visit them.

The Fallas are divided into categories according to their budget for that year. The most striking and important, and therefore, those that will receive the first prizes are those in the special category; majority are around the centre of Valencia and its surroundings (Plaza del Pilar, Cuba Literato Azorín, Na Jordana, Campanar, Convento de Jerusalén, etc.).

Fallas in Valencia have a component of social criticism about current issues. We recommend that you stop carefully at each falla to understand the theme and appreciate every small artistic detail.

At LOCK & enjoy! we advise you to organize a small route, as there are a total of 768 Fallas in Valencia, including also the children’s monuments.

Nocturnal festivities

The majority of Fallas also set up street parties or booths in their neighborhoods and districts where people dine outdoors and dance until the early hours of the morning. Also, the food and drinks are much more economical compared to the bars and restaurants in the city center.

We recommend you try the ones in the Ruzafa neighborhood, Cánovas, or the Aragón area, among others.

If you finally decide to enjoy the nightlife during Fallas, leave your most valuable items in our lockers in Ruzafa. We have a 24-hour video surveillance system and, in addition, our premises can only be entered with a code provided once the locker is reserved.

Chocolate with churros and buñuelos

During the Fallas of Valencia, numerous stalls are set up throughout the city where churros with chocolate and buñuelos become the protagonists for sweet lovers. Also, buñuelos have evolved, and you can buy them filled with chocolate, dulce de leche, or strawberry, for example.

For the best chocolate with churros, we recommend Santa Catalina and for buñuelos, the horchatería Fabián.

Flower Offering

On March 17th and 18th, from 3:30 PM until midnight, the famous flower offering to the Virgin of the Forsaken, the patron saint of the city, takes place.

During these days, the falleras and falleros walk through the main central streets of the city until they reach the Plaza de la Virgen to place a bouquet of flowers. With this, the beautiful tapestries of the Virgin’s cloak are made.

However, if you do not like the bustle of people, go to the plaza on the 19th to see how the cloak looks once the offering is finished.

Enjoy the best activities during the Fallas of Valencia! And remember, we have backpack lockers in Valencia to store everything you need during your getaway.
