Day trips from Seville are one of the city’s biggest attractions. At LOCK & enjoy!, we’ll walk you through the best options so you can choose your favourite and get to know a bit more about the city and province.
The Best Day Trips from Seville
The province of Seville offers several noteworthy excursions, and there are also some nearby Andalusian capitals worth visiting. Choose your favourite!
Itálica
Just 7 kilometres from the city of Seville lies Itálica, one of the most important archaeological sites in Andalusia.
Itálica was founded in 206 BC by Publius Cornelius, one of the most significant Roman generals and politicians of the time. Originally built as a settlement for war veterans, it eventually grew into an advanced city with all kinds of services. It remained in use until the Muslim period, when it became a quarry for minerals.
Over 125,000 people visit Itálica annually, making it one of the most recommended excursions during your holiday. You can also find guided tours online that will help you learn more about the history of the site, as well as information on opening hours and ticket prices.
Carmona
Carmona is considered one of the oldest cities in Andalusia, having been home to Carthaginians, Romans, and Muslims. It also held strategic importance due to its location in the Guadalquivir Valley.
Carmona is about 35 kilometres from Seville, and if you don’t have a car, you can take an Alsa bus for around €6 (round trip).
What are the most important tourist attractions in the city?
- Perched atop a hill, the city is surrounded by a fortified complex called the Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla. Walking through its arches is like stepping back in time. There are also viewpoints offering stunning views of the valley.
- Several olive mills in Carmona offer guided tours to learn about the oil-making process, as well as tastings of one of the region’s most typical products.
- The streets of the historic centre are also worth a visit, having been the setting for films such as Solas and Nobody Knows Anybody, among others.
The Route of the White Villages
The Route of the White Villages is one of the most famous excursions thanks to its charm. You can organise your trip however you prefer, as many towns are part of this tourism initiative, which is also sponsored by the Andalusian government.
However, we’ll explain which villages are closest to Seville so that you can visit them in one day.
Arcos de la Frontera is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Spain due to its rich heritage (basilicas, convents, palaces, etc.). It sits atop a hill and is surrounded by the Guadalete River. The town’s white houses are visible from the road, creating a postcard-perfect scene.
Grazalema is a bit farther from Seville (a two-hour drive), but it’s well worth the trip. This village is famous because the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park has been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Every corner of this town is perfect for relaxing, breathing fresh air, and unwinding.
Zahara de la Sierra, located near Grazalema, sits in the heart of the natural park. In addition to its typical white houses, the entire town is classified as a Historic-Artistic Site due to its traditional urban layout and hillside location.
El Ronquillo
If you prefer sports and nature, we recommend visiting El Ronquillo, just 45 minutes from Seville. There are numerous places for hiking around the town, as well as the Minilla Reservoir, an ideal spot for taking scenic photos.
We’d also like to highlight that this is one of the towns with the highest honey production. Be sure to try the local cuisine, which is centred around stews and game meat.
For any type of excursion, it’s advisable to travel by car to save time and enjoy your day without worries. If you don’t have one, you can rent a car at affordable prices from Centauro or Kayak.
Córdoba
Córdoba is very close to Seville, just an hour and a half by car. It’s also one of the cities where we’re planning to open a LOCK & enjoy! franchise due to its tourist, cultural, and gastronomic significance.
A day trip to Córdoba can easily fill the whole day. If you leave early in the morning, you’ll have plenty of time to explore one of Spain’s most historic cities, which also enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status.
The historic centre, Roman Bridge, old Jewish Quarter, Synagogue, and the Mosque-Cathedral will make your trip unforgettable, whether you’re travelling with family, friends, or a partner.
