At LOCK & enjoy!, we recommend using the famous municipal guaguas (buses) to get from one place to another.
Calle Mayor de Triana and Surrounding Areas
Calle Mayor de Triana and its surrounding streets are the busiest in the capital. They are located between Parque de San Telmo and the famous Vegueta neighbourhood.
This street is home to numerous shops as well as restaurants, making it one of the most frequented streets on the island. It has a lively atmosphere, as it has been pedestrianised since the 1980s, making it perfect for strolling and admiring the modernist architecture, typical of Vegueta. Major brands are present, such as Mango, Zara, and Desigual, along with the typical souvenir shops.
If you’re a fan of vintage fashion or accessories, head to the streets around Calle Mayor de Triana. It’s also an excellent opportunity to visit craft shops and take home a unique souvenir.
On Calle Mendizábal, 1, you’ll find one of the island’s most famous markets, the Mercado de Vegueta, very close to the street we’ve mentioned. It’s over 150 years old and is mainly known for its wide selection of local fruits and vegetables from the Canary Islands, such as mangoes, papayas, guavas, etc., as well as meat, fish, and bakery shops. There are also bars and cafes where you can taste the local cuisine.
Las Arenas Shopping Centre
Las Arenas is the go-to shopping centre in the city, offering a wide range of activities for all ages, from young people to adults. It’s the perfect place to shop for everything you need: homeware, jewellery and accessories, gifts and toys, perfume and beauty products, accessories, footwear, sports equipment, and more. Some examples include Ale-Hop, Bershka, Calzedonia, Carrefour, Cortefiel, and Foot Locker, among others.
We’d like to highlight the statue of a pharaoh at the entrance, a feature that catches the eye of first-time visitors.
There’s also a wide range of dining options, as well as cinemas and a hypermarket.
This centre is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 22:00. Las Arenas is located on Carretera del Rincón.
Don’t worry about your children as there’s a kids’ club with monitors where they can play while you enjoy a morning or afternoon of shopping.
Avenida Mesa y López
This shopping area is very close to our lockers in Las Palmas – Las Canteras. It’s one of the city’s most important spots due to its economic and social significance, both for locals and tourists.
Sports shops are particularly prominent among the types of stores for shopping here. Examples include Basket Country, Estadio Sport, and Pesca & Airsoft. The reason is that sports activities are very common in Las Palmas, both on land and in the water. Fashion and accessory stores are also abundant, such as Guess, Intimissimi, and Stradivarius.
Additionally, this avenue is home to El Corte Inglés. There are also restaurants, ice cream parlours, and cafes, as well as leisure options like bingo halls and amusement arcades.
For more detailed information about all the shops on this avenue, we recommend visiting their official website.
Siete Palmas Shopping Centre
Another famous and popular shopping centre on the island, Siete Palmas attracts thousands of tourists every day with its wide range of shops, leisure, and dining options.
Many well-known brands are in this centre, such as Hawkers, Ikea, Mango, La Casa de las Carcasas, Primor, and Springfield. There is also another El Corte Inglés nearby.
Additionally, you can enjoy various leisure options as Siete Palmas has cinemas and a bowling alley, as well as a gym.
The opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 22:00. To enjoy an afternoon of shopping at this centre, head to Avenida Pintor Felo Monzón, 44.
Las Terrazas
If you prefer outlet shopping, Las Terrazas will be your favourite spot. At LOCK & enjoy!, we love it because it’s an open-air centre, so you can feel the sea breeze as you stroll.
Among the brands offering products at reduced prices, we can highlight Parfois, Puma, Nike, El Corte Inglés, Pepe Jeans, and Lacoste.
It also has a wide range of dining options: Burger King, KFC, Poké Poké, and Taco Bell, among others.
This outlet centre is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 22:00, and is in the municipality of Telde, on the island of Gran Canaria.
Yumbo Centrum
In Maspalomas (San Bartolomé de Tirajana) is one of the island’s most important shopping centres: Yumbo Centrum. This town is a national and international reference as one of the epicentres of LGTBIQ+ leisure.
The centre is home to shops that are not well-known but offer very affordable prices, such as Ritual Jeans, Bazar Expo, Boxer, and Why Not?.
It’s located on Avenida de Estados Unidos, 54. The most notable feature is that most shops are open 24 hours because this centre is the focus of Maspalomas’ nightlife.
