Discover Green Paris!
We advise you to continue reading to learn more about the numerous gardens and parks in Paris. Remember to free yourself from your belongings to visit them comfortably.
Luxembourg Gardens
This is a collection of gardens considered the most central, beautiful, and popular in the city. They were created in 1612 under the influence of Marie de’ Medici, tailored to her specifications.
Over the years, they expanded, however, during the French Revolution, they were turned into a prison. A similar event occurred during World War II, as the Germans built a bunker in the gardens.
Today, it is one of the most visited gardens in Paris, both by Parisians and tourists. It’s an ideal place to relax in the hundreds of metal chairs scattered throughout the area. Tranquillity reigns in every corner, with numerous plants and trees providing shelter from the high temperatures.
We recommend checking out the activities available, i.e. pétanque, tennis, sailing on small boats.
Tuileries Garden
This garden is in the centre of Paris, specifically between the Louvre Museum and Place de la Concorde.
Now, what’s the origin of its name? It comes from the term “tuiles” which means tiles in English. This is because before the garden was built, there were numerous tile factories on the site. Initially, it was used for high society parties, which is why walls were built to preserve the privacy of those inside.
Now it is a public garden where anyone can stroll to unwind or relax after a long day visiting Paris. Don’t leave without looking at the large central fountain that stands out from the rest as well as the tree-lined avenue filled with sculptures.
Palais Royal Garden
This isn’t one of the most frequented by tourists, making it a wonderful opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle.
Its name can be misleading, as it was not the garden of kings but of Cardinal Richelieu, though after his death it was donated to the French crown. Over the years, Philippe Égalité remodelled it with the aim of opening it to the public.
Store your belongings in a locker and immerse yourself in the relaxation emanating from its trees! However, if you wish, you can visit the small shops in the arcades surrounding it.
Bois de Boulogne
Not as well-known and not near the centre; remember, the Paris Metro has stops in practically all areas of interest, we at LOCK & enjoy! love it.
It is one of the oldest in Paris, first mentioned in the year 777, was transformed into a park by order of Napoleon III in 1852. Today, it is the largest forest in the city, covering a total of 35 kilometres, even larger than Central Park.
Dive into a paradise of paths and marvel at the two lakes connected by a waterfall. Parisians often use this forest to enjoy a good read, as well as for a day of picnicking with family.
Just in the northern area lies the Jardin d’Acclimatation. This is an amusement park combined with an animal reserve, making it the perfect place if you have children.
Parc de la Villette
If you prefer to visit something different, come explore this park, where nature and culture are combined in one place. It spans 3000 m² of ecological gardens. Therefore, the importance of this green lung is undeniable, as it is visited by a total of 10 million people a year.
Take note of the following activities to decide which you would like to do:
- The park is divided into thematic gardens (circular and rectangular meadows, plains with large green beaches, etc.).
- There are 3 cinemas, but we recommend choosing the open-air option held in summer.
- Music is also present, with free festivals held, including a leading jazz festival.
Champ de Mars
When we opened LOCK & enjoy! in Paris, we took the opportunity to visit the Champ de Mars, one of the most renowned parks in the capital. It is located right at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and its vastness allows you to stroll comfortably.
It was created in the 18th century for use in parades and military gatherings given its proximity to the military academy, situated at one end of the park, was also the scene of the Universal Expositions in various years.
Prepare a picnic with your partner or sit around while waiting for the lights of the Eiffel Tower to turn on. Interestingly, it is one of the most chosen places for marriage proposals.
