We have two Luggage storage facilities close to the center of the capital so you can leave your belongings while you enjoy any of the activities of the program.

What is it and when is it celebrated?

This is the annual celebration of the LGTBQI+ community in Madrid, which begins on June 28th (International LGBT Pride Day). For more than a week, more precisely until July 7, Madrid becomes a city of light, love and numerous activities for all audiences.

Its importance is unquestionable in any field:

  • In 2023, it generated an economic impact of 519.9 million euros.
  • Hotel occupancy has reached almost 100%.
  • The number of tourists visiting the city during those days has reached two million people in certain years, 35% of them from outside Spain.

Programming 2024

The programming for this year has already been made public by the associations in charge of its organization. From LOCK & enjoy! we encourage you to continue reading the selection of activities that we have prepared so you can choose the one you like the most with your family and friends.

Chueca’s Pride

It is the first activity of MADO (Madrid Orgullo), on Friday, June 28. They are a set of cultural and recreational initiatives that take place in bars, stores and restaurants in the famous neighborhood of Chueca.

If this is your first time at the Gay Pride in Madrid you will be surprised by the activity in the street. The reason is that this party invites you to drink, dance and socialize with the rest of the people in the street and, in addition, the good temperature always accompanies.

Pride Proclamation

The proclamation means the beginning of the festival for official purposes, but it is also characterized by the fun in every corner of the Plaza Pedro Zerolo. In addition, it is the most important event after Saturday’s demonstration.

This year it will be held on July 3rd and will last from 8:00 pm until 11:00 pm. This year’s presenter will be the famous drag: La Plexy.

Once the proclamation is over, a series of stages will be set up until Sunday, July 7 with live performances in different areas of Madrid:

  • Plaza del Rey, although during Gay Pride in Madrid it is known as Plaza de las Reinas. Soraya, Nya de la Rubia and La mare, among other artists, will perform here.
  • The works in Sol have already finished, therefore, the stage has been installed again. Although the schedule or specific dates are not yet known, we know that Samantha Ballentines or Vypper will be in Puerta del Sol.
  • On the Plaza de España stage, Nebulossa, Merche and La Grande Dame will be the protagonists.

Heel race

The heel race is one of the most fun activities in the program. It is a sporting event, but with a playful character, combining speed, balance and glamour.

The day of the celebration this year is July 4 at 6:00 p.m. on Pelayo Street, in the heart of the Chueca neighborhood.

Anyone can participate regardless of gender, age or sexual orientation. If you are up for it, all you need is a great desire to have a good time, respect the rules and have a certain amount of skill wearing heels with a maximum platform of 15 centimeters.

Statewide demonstration and central event

The most powerful activity of the whole program will take place on Saturday, July 6. This year’s slogan is “Education, Rights and Peace: Pride that transforms”.

The starting point is the Carlos V traffic circle in Atocha. At LOCK & enjoy! we advise you to follow it from this area and, in addition, it is the most frequented by families and seniors and, therefore, the least crowded. The official route is as follows:

  1. Atocha Station (Glorieta de Carlos V).
  2. Paseo del Prado.
  3. Cibeles Fountain.
  4. Paseo de Recoletos.
  5. Plaza de Colón.

Once the demonstration reaches its end, the parade of the protest floats begins. It is the main event and the one that attracts the most tourists, since all the areas mentioned above are filled with music, dance and color. Companies such as Google, Facebook or Amazon also do not miss the opportunity to be present at this party, hence they have their own floats.

There are numerous stalls to buy drinks, food and all kinds of merchandising for you to have a nice souvenir of this experience.

We recommend that you wear comfortable shoes, as this event starts at 7:00 pm and ends in the early morning hours.

When the parade ends, the night party continues in the pubs and discos throughout the center of Madrid, especially in Chueca.

Mr. Gay Spain Contest

This year marks 18 years since Mr. Gay Spain was created. The operation is very similar to the rest of recognized beauty contests, since each participant represents his province, from which there will be a winner who will be the image of Spain in international competitions.

This year it takes place on July 5 in Plaza de España. It is another of the most important events of the Pride, since it gathers thousands of people.

Although the vast majority of the programming takes place in the center of Madrid, it always uses the Metro to move with total comfort and freedom, as it is considered one of the best transports.
