We’re certain that Málaga’s panoramic views will surprise you. These are tranquil spots perfect for watching the sunset, taking unforgettable photos, and relaxing away from the bustle of the historic centre.
Gibralfaro Viewpoint
This is one of the city’s most iconic and popular landmarks. Located on a hill, this fortress-like castle offers some of the best views, including those of the Mediterranean Sea.
From this viewpoint, you can see the historic centre and the port. It’s a peaceful and relaxing spot. We recommend heading to Gibralfaro for sunset, as it’s one of the most photographed moments by tourists who come to discover Málaga.
There are two ways to get up there:
- If you’re walking, you’ll need to pass through the Jardines de Puerta Oscura. At the end, there’s a sloping path with some small steps that will take you to La Coracha (a series of ramps leading up the hillside). If you choose this route, wear comfortable shoes.
- You can also purchase a ticket for the tourist bus that tours the city and stops at the castle.
Alcazaba
This renowned fortress is one of Málaga’s architectural jewels. It offers impressive views and provides an immersion into the city’s Arab history. The Alcazaba is also located on a hill, near the Roman Theatre.
At the viewpoint, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the majestic beauty of this part of Málaga’s heritage, including its towers and walls. You can also see the cathedral, the port, and the sea.
It’s surrounded by beautiful gardens and numerous patios adorned with fountains and native plants. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a serene, charming, and welcoming atmosphere. There are also information boards to help you learn a bit more about Málaga’s history.
The Alcazaba viewpoint is free to visit, and there are two routes to reach it:
- Calle Cilla, just a few metres from the Roman Theatre Interpretation Centre.
- Calle Mundo Nuevo.
Monte San Antón
The viewpoint on this mountain is also considered one of the most romantic spots in Málaga.
It’s located on the outskirts, on a hill 250 metres above sea level. Because of this, it offers some of the best views of the city, as well as its surroundings and nearby towns.
If you decide to visit, make sure to check out the San Antón Hermitage, a 17th-century religious temple that also offers an unparalleled panoramic view from its bell tower.
You can walk up from a path starting at the famous Plaza de la Merced, right in the historic centre. Keep in mind, though, that it’s nearly a three-hour hike. You can also drive up, as there’s a road that takes you to the top, making it the most comfortable and shortest option (a 20-minute journey).
Monte Victoria
This hill is also known as Cerro de San Cristóbal. The hike to reach this viewpoint is a real trekking route, as there are steep and demanding slopes.
It’s part of Monte Victoria and is located right in front of the antennas that crown Monte de Las Tres Letras. It’s also one of Málaga’s 31 forest viewpoints. The area is fully equipped for visitors, with benches, bins, railings, and rest areas.
The climb rewards you with views of the Colinas del Limonar, and even the Sierra de Grazalema, panorama also includes La Rosaleda, Monte Gibralfaro, and the Sierra de Mijas.
To reach this spot, head to the end of the residential areas on Calle Ferrándiz, and in just about 30 minutes, you’ll be treated to a 270-degree panoramic view.

El Atabal
If you prefer a unique and impressive viewpoint, the Torre del Atabal is the ideal spot. By car, it’s only a 15-minute drive from the centre, but if you choose to walk, it will take around an hour and a half. The ascent begins from Puerto de la Torre, just 500 metres from this point.
At the viewpoint, you’ll find the Torre del Atabal, a small watchtower that was part of the network of lookouts used during the Middle Ages and Modern times to monitor the Mediterranean coast and surrounding areas.
