The festival brings together all kinds of music professionals: pianists, teachers and students from many parts of the world including China, the United States, and the United Kingdom among others.
The program is very diverse featuring masterclasses, an international competition for students and a series of concerts by leading artists in this genre. For more detailed information, visit the website.
Open Cinema
This is one of the cultural activities most cherished by the people of Málaga as it attracted a total of 60,000 people in 2023. It is an open-air film festival present in all city districts including Málaga’s most famous beaches (Malagueta, Misericordia, and Dedo).
It starts on June 28th and ends on August 15th. During these months, dozens of movies are screened such as Barbie, Death in Venice, and Mummies, to name a few.
Visit any district and enjoy a movie with your loved ones for free. At LOCK & enjoy!, we advise you to prepare a small picnic and take it to the cinema.
Brisa Festival
This is a musical event that has been held since 2020. It takes place from July 25th, to July 27th this year at the Port of Málaga, as a larger venue and capacity were sought due to the success of previous years.
It attracts thousands of people due to the famous artists who perform such as Dorian, Kiko Veneno, El Kanka, or Lori Meyers among others. We recommend you purchase your tickets early as they tend to sell out quickly.
Picasso Museum
The city of Málaga boasts one of the nation’s most important museums, home to the works of Pablo Picasso.
Take advantage of your holidays in Málaga to view the famous works of the painter, and also, during the summer, there are two exhibitions of other artists who are also significant in the international scene:
- María Blanchard (Cubist painter).
- Joel Meyerowitz (urban photographer).
Additionally, if you have children (aged 4 to 11), we also recommend enrolling them in the summer workshops called Pentaprism. These workshops are inspired by the works of the two artists mentioned above, where children work both individually and collectively to learn how a photographic camera works in the museum environment to seek out shapes and colours.
Flamenco
If you are passionate about flamenco, or if you have never seen a performance, the city of Málaga hosts numerous events in the summer for those who wish to learn more about this musical genre. Here are a couple of them:
- Alegría Gastronomía Restaurant. Located near the Port of Málaga and the Pompidou Centre, it offers flamenco shows daily as well as meals and dinners. The show lasts about an hour and features well-known artists. Additionally, the same restaurant has an Interactive Flamenco Centre where you can explore the facets of this art through technological means guided by an expert.
- Flamenco Theatre Málaga Club. In this venue located on Lazcano Street 5, you can also enjoy the magic of this universal art. It’s a small combination of theatre and improvisation on a flamenco stage. It opens every day of the year and offers 3 shows daily.
Pompidou Center
This center is a symbol of modern and contemporary architecture and is also one of the most unique buildings in Málaga. It is a branch of the National Centre of Art and Culture Georges Pompidou in Paris. Opened in 2015, it has since become a successful cultural centre due to its growing number of visitors each year.
If you are interested in modern art or want to learn a little more about it, this place is a must-visit. It hosts a considerable number of exhibitions with various artistic disciplines.
Workshops are also organized for children during the summer.
Music in the Courtyard of the Carmen Thyssen Museum
The Carmen Thyssen Museum houses a magnificent columned courtyard that creates a warm, cozy, and intimate atmosphere. It is the main core of the building and from June 29th to July 27th hosts a series of small concerts of different musical genres such as jazz, folklore, or independent music.
