Shopping Route through Madrid: Discover the Best Shopping Areas

For shopping in Madrid, you have a wide selection in terms of commercial areas, large surfaces, and flea markets. Therefore, we have chosen the most popular and attractive in terms of variety.

Gran Vía, Preciados, and Fuencarral

These three streets are part of the heart of the city centre and, therefore, are the most touristic and bustling. Therefore, big brands have set up shop here, although there are also stores that are a historical symbol.

On Madrid’s Gran Vía, you have all the reference clothing stores like Zara, Stradivarius, Nike, or Lacoste, among others. We would like to highlight Primark, since it is the largest in Europe, occupying an entire building on the avenue. On the other hand, you also have La Casa del Libro and countless cafeterias, bars, and restaurants.

Don’t worry about your bags because we keep them for you in our lockers in Plaza de España, very close to Gran Vía. Book the locker for as many hours as you need!

Continue your route down Preciados street, just minutes from Gran Vía. On this street, you will find the greatest cultural, technological, and musical offerings. The most famous stores are El Corte Inglés, Fnac, and Apple Store. There are also numerous clothing and accessory stores, among which Pikolinos, Camper, and Purificación García stand out.

And finally, Fuencarral. At first glance, it may seem very small, but nothing could be further from the truth, as it is one and a half kilometers long. Renowned brands such as Diesel, Levi’s, Jack & Jones, and Victoria’s Secret have set up shop on both sides of the street.

Malasaña

The Malasaña neighborhood is a must-stop on your shopping route through Madrid if you love vintage fashion. The reason is that in the 1980s this neighborhood was the nerve center of the “Movida Madrileña,” a true cultural, artistic, and musical transformation that changed the city.

There is a wide range of clothing stores for all types of urban tribes (punk, heavy, etc.), as well as vintage from almost any era. The most famous are the Templo de Susu, Alphaville, and Magpie. However, at LOCK & enjoy! we recommend that you lose yourself in the streets of the Malasaña neighborhood and visit the store that you like the most.

In the neighborhood, there are also some stores for comic and graphic novel enthusiasts, as well as art galleries and independent designer stores.

Leave your purchases in our lockers in Malasaña! Also, if you book in advance, you can also access discounts and promotions.

Salamanca neighborhood

Do you know Madrid’s Golden Mile? It is one of the most exclusive shopping areas in the city, as it houses the most luxurious stores in the capital. The world’s most prestigious fashion, decoration, and jewelry brands have establishments on Juan Bravo, Príncipe de Vergara, Jorge Juan, and Serrano streets.

To name just a few examples: Prada, Roberto Verino, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Tiffany & Co, etc.

El Rastro

El Rastro de Madrid is one of the city’s most important commercial symbols and also the largest open-air market. It originated in 1740 as a place to exchange second-hand clothing.

Today, it is a second-hand market where more than 1,000 sellers meet in its labyrinthine streets starting from the La Latina metro station. However, there are also souvenir, clothing, handicraft, and book stalls. We recommend you visit the Rastro if you are looking for good deals.

It is open every Sunday and public holidays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

In one of the streets of the Rastro, more precisely at Santa Ana 8, we have our lockers in La Latina. Take advantage of booking your locker to continue enjoying the numerous tourist activities in Madrid.

Shopping centers

According to various reports, Madrid is the city in Spain with the most shopping centers per capita. The majority of them are not located in the center, however, it is worth knowing which are the closest or most accessible.

One of the most recent is Plaza Río 2. It is located in the area known as Madrid Río, on the banks of the Manzanares River.

If you don’t want to move from the center, visit the Príncipe Pío shopping center, as it is only 15 minutes from Plaza de España. We would like to highlight that this shopping area is located in an old train station built in the 19th century.

To go to both shopping centers, we advise you to travel on the Madrid Metro.

Did you know that there is also a shopping center on Gran Vía in the old Hotel Roma called WOW? It has hundreds of items from a wide range of brands so you can do all your shopping in one place.
