What is celebrated on October 9?
On October 9 is celebrated the entry of James I The Conqueror, King of Aragon at that time, to the city of Valencia in 1238. The objective was to reconquer it, since at that time it was under Muslim rule. The most important consequence was the constitution of the Kingdom of Valencia.

“Mascletás” and fireworks
Firecrackers and gunpowder could not be missing in the festivities and events of October 9 in Valencia.
Although the exact date and times are not yet known, in previous years 2 “mascletás” have been held on different days, but always in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and at 14:00 hours. On the other hand, there will also be a fireworks display at night in the Paseo de la Alameda.
The Real Senyera
The Real Senyera is the official flag of the Valencian Community and, therefore, in this festivity it acquires more importance than ever. It is also the protagonist in two very important moments.
First of all, on the 9th, the Senyera is lowered from the balcony of the City Hall of Valencia. At the same moment, a procession starts to carry the flag to the cathedral of the city in order to celebrate a mass in its honor. Finally, it is returned again to the consistory.
And, secondly, the Real Senyera can be visited in the Crystal Hall of the town hall. The schedule is very extensive, since the visits begin at 10:00 hours and end at 20:00 hours. It is a good way to contemplate one of the most important symbols of Valencian culture and, in addition, admission is free.
