Barcelona is one of the most vibrant cities in Spain. It’s a place where culture, history, and modernity blend to offer unforgettable experiences. Planning to visit Barcelona over a weekend? In this article, we’ve prepared a Barcelona in 2 days itinerary so you won’t miss any of the city’s iconic spots.
Day 1
Your first day in Barcelona will help you connect with the spirit of the city. We’re sure you’ll fall in love with Barcelona before the day ends. Ready for the adventure?
Stroll through the Gothic Quarter
Start your day in the Gothic Quarter, where you can have breakfast at any of the traditional chocolatiers and bakeries. A good coffee with panellets is a great choice to enjoy a breakfast featuring a typical Catalan sweet.
Wander through the narrow Roman and medieval streets in this area. Nearby, you’ll find many of the city’s must-see landmarks such as the Palau de la Generalitat, King’s Square, or Barcelona Cathedral. However, we advise not spending too much time touring them inside as there’s still much more to see.
Next, a 15-minute walk takes you to the Rambla de Barcelona. It’s the quintessential tourist area. This 1200-meter avenue is lined with terraces for drinks, artists, florists, and small kiosks. On one of the parallel streets, you’ll find La Boqueria Market, one of the city’s most famous markets.
Lunch at Barceloneta Beach
Once you reach the end of Las Ramblas, you’ll be at Barceloneta Beach. It’s a great area to eat at one of the restaurants with sea views, most of which specialise in paellas and seafood.
If you have some time before lunch, we suggest walking around Port Vell; it’s the old harbour of the city.
Afternoon in Montjuïc
The best plan for the afternoon is to head to Montjuïc. It’s one of the best viewpoints in Barcelona because the views of the harbour and the city are unforgettable. The most convenient way is to take the D20 bus line from Barceloneta and get off at the Paral·lel stop. From there, you have two options: walk for 35 minutes up to Montjuïc or buy a ticket for the funicular.
Dinner in El Born
The El Born district is another tourist hotspot for dinner and your first drink. We’d like to highlight that it’s a lively neighbourhood because of its many shops and restaurants, and it also has a special charm, both culturally rich and modern.
We recommend dining at Can Sisa, 7 Portes, and Carballeira. For drinks, check out Mariposa Negra, Especiarium, and Bar Brutal.
Day 2
Your second day in Barcelona will focus on visiting the major architectural, cultural, and artistic works. If you love Modernist art, this will be your favourite day.
Casa Batlló and La Pedrera
Start at Plaza Catalunya for breakfast at one of the nearby bars. For the second day, we suggest pa amb tomàquet with coffee or juice; it’s a typical breakfast in Barcelona consisting of toasted bread with oil, salt, and rubbed tomato.
Just a 10-minute walk away is Casa Batlló, located on Passeig de Gràcia, and a little further down is La Pedrera. These two Modernist buildings are a must-visit in Barcelona. Both were designed by the famous Gaudí and have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia is the undisputed icon of Barcelona, its emblem and also a World Heritage Site.
At LOCK & enjoy! we advise buying your ticket in advance. Also, purchase the ticket that allows full access so you can climb to the top of its unique towers and enjoy the best views of Barcelona.
Tired of carrying your backpack? No worries, we have lockers at Sagrada Familia with 24-hour video surveillance for you to safely leave your belongings.
Around the monument, you’ll find numerous bars and restaurants for a break and a bite to eat.
Park Güell
20 minutes from Sagrada Familia is Park Güell. Also designed by Gaudí, it is considered a World Heritage Site.
It’s one of the best places to watch the sunset in Barcelona and also to take the best photos on your visit to the city. We recommend letting yourself get lost in the park to enjoy one of Gaudí’s finest works (Dragon Stairway, Hypostyle Room, etc.).
Dinner
Finally, head to Eixample. It’s one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in the city, due to its wide range of nightlife, especially LGBTQ+.
For dinner, you also have a wide selection of gourmet-focused restaurants and bars. We recommend trying Lasarte, Moments, or Caelis, among others.
For a drink, check out Fàbrica Moritz. It’s a small brewery where you can try Barcelona’s reference craft beer: Moritz. Alternatively, if you prefer premium drinks, we suggest Solange cocktail bar.
