Discover the secret corners of Barcelona and experience the city like never before.

Barcelona is a city that hides many secrets and most of them go unnoticed, both for locals and tourists. We advise you to read this article that we have prepared for you to organize a small route through the city to discover them.

Air-raid shelters

The city of Barcelona was very important at all levels during the Civil War. Therefore, the city council has rehabilitated a series of shelters and bunkers so that they can be visited, always with the aim of knowing a little more about the conflict that took place.

We tell you which are the most popular:

  • Shelter 307 (Poble Sec). It is located at the foot of the mountain of reference in the city: Montjuïc, it is also one of the largest. It has capacity for 2000 people, hence it was one of the most bombed during the conflict.
  • Plaça del Diamant shelter. The shelter is located in the district of Graçia. It is very well preserved thanks to the humidity and temperature. It can hold a total of 200 people and is 12 meters underground. A total of 250 meters of narrow tunnels run through the entire square.
  • Refuge of the Revolution Square. This is also located in the Graçia neighborhood. It is very well lit, but there is a strong smell of dampness. It consists of a gallery and two infirmary rooms.

Torre Baró Castle

The Torre Baró Castle is one of the most unknown secret corners of Barcelona. The reason is that it is located far from the city center, more specifically in Nou Barris.

It is a construction of the early twentieth century. The initial idea was to build a hotel, but the project was abandoned and fell into disuse. It was not until 1989 when it was restored and declared historical heritage by the Barcelona City Council.

The most striking feature of the castle is its viewpoint, as it offers 360º views. We would also like to point out that guided tours are organized free of charge to learn in detail the history of this place.

La Tamarita Gardens

The gardens of the Tamarita are not very well known either, but for us they are magical because they seem to be from another era. This place reminds us of the times when the Catalan bourgeoisie used to build their mansions surrounded by gardens in the highest parts of the neighborhoods.

It is a good place to rest and be quiet because it is away from the noise of the center. It is also a very romantic place to take a walk with your partner, and even to organize a picnic.

Cloister of the Church of Santa Ana

In the middle of Santa Ana street there is a door that leads directly to the church of Santa Ana.

Inside is one of the most beautiful cloisters of Barcelona and also one of the oldest (15th century). It is Gothic in style, as is the chapter house of the church. There is an incredible atmosphere that can be breathed through its historic walls.

The entrance fee is only 2 €. At LOCK & enjoy! we advise you to visit the cloister during the week, as on weekends there are usually religious celebrations.

Arús Library

The Arús Library is one of the most important literary repositories in Barcelona due to the subject matter of its books. It is located in Passeig de Sant Joan, very close to our luggage lockers in Lockers in Sagrada Familia..

A total of 75,000 volumes comprise this library. The contents deal with Freemasonry, anarchism, federal republicanism or the workers’ movement, among other subjects.

We recommend a guided tour for only 17 €.as it is the best way to get to know the place. It is best to go in the afternoon because during the morning it is frequented by students and researchers.

Sert Passage

If you have already visited Barcelona we are sure that you have passed by this street on more than one occasion, but you have not appreciated its beauty.

It is a small oasis of nature and tranquility because there are plants in the street and on the balconies, as well as lots of natural light. Many years ago it was a degraded street, however, it has become an area with apartments and offices and, therefore, has become a special charm.

We encourage you to sit in one of the bars and enjoy the calm that fills this place. For example, in the Bitxo they prepare very good tapas and, in addition, with an excellent wine.

Casa de les Punxes

Also known as Casa Terradas. It is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, more specifically in the street of Rosellón. We would like to point out that in 1975 it was declared a national historic monument.

This modernist style building was designed for each of the daughters of the architect Bartomeu Terradas. It is very reminiscent of the old medieval castles because it has 6 pointed towers, hence the name it receives.

Although it cannot be visited because it is privately owned, it is currently used for events and coworking.

Come and take unforgettable photos of one of the most emblematic buildings in Barcelona.

Enjoy the secret corners of Barcelona! If you prepare your trip ahead of time, take advantage of our discounts and promotions for early booking in our Lockers.
