What to do in the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria?<\/h2>\n

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival<\/strong><\/a> has a very extensive program, since it runs from February 1st to March 16th<\/strong> (both inclusive). Therefore, we have selected the most dynamic and popular activities that we are sure you will enjoy to the fullest. <\/p>\n

Drag Queen Gala<\/h3>\n

It is one of the most popular events in the capital and good proof of this is that this event has been celebrated for more than 25 years. It is a commitment to a party open to all, transgressive and diverse<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

This gala consists of spectacular parades<\/strong> in which the participants dress in elaborate, eye-catching and colorful costumes. The contestants are evaluated by a jury with criteria based on staging, costume design or performance. <\/p>\n

It will be held on March 7 at Santa Catalina Park, the epicenter of most of the carnival events. Tickets have not yet gone on sale, but we recommend you to visit the website<\/g><\/g> frequently because they sell out in a few hours. However, it is always streamed live on Youtube. <\/p>\n

Carnival Nights and Carnival by Day<\/h3>\n

The nightlife can not miss in the park of Santa Catalina<\/strong>. On February 28 and March 3, 8, 14 and 15 you have an appointment in the park along with thousands of canaries and tourists to dance with your best costume. These days coincide with the big galas and celebrations that take place beforehand. <\/p>\n

It is an outdoor party with concerts of national and international orchestras. During the night the famous mascaritas (little masks)<\/g> make their appearance. These are people who dress in costumes, but with masks and painted faces very striking. <\/p>\n

Last year more than 12,000 people attended, so don’t hesitate to come on any of the days to enjoy the authentic Canarian carnival party.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, over the years the Day Carnival has also become popular. These are also open-air concerts, but during the day. The selected dates are March 1, 8, 9 and 16. <\/p>\n

Queen’s Gala<\/h3>\n

It is the most important event of the program because the representative of the year 2025 is chosen; it is celebrated on February 28th. It is a great show in front of an audience of approximately 4,000 people and is broadcast on national and international television. Burial of the Sardine<\/h3>\n

On March 16, the Burial of the Sardine is celebrated, one of the parades that mark the end of the Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria<\/strong>. Although it is a festivity that also takes place in other cities in Spain, in this city it acquires a special importance due to the quality of the details and the organization. <\/p>\n

The theme of the parade is a parody of a funeral procession of a sardine. Therefore, during the whole route, a large sardine figure is paraded through the streets<\/strong>, accompanied by bright and colorful costumes, always with an atmosphere of joy and comedy. And finally, the sardine is burned, symbolizing the end of the excesses of the Canarian carnival and the arrival of Lent. <\/p>\n

The costumes are free (pirate, Egyptian Pharaoh, Venetian, etc.), but made with a lot of creativity, work and imagination on the part of the owners. They are not professional costumes because they are made with plastic containers, cardboard or paints of all kinds of colors. Once the parade is over, the winner is chosen. <\/p>\n

This year it takes place on February 23rd at Santa Catalina Park.<\/p>\n
